We live in a world of silencing opinions masked as tolerance and love. But there is one area where this carries damning consequences... addiction, trafficking, and suicide to name a few.

2 Years Now

The Choose RCVRY brand started 2 years ago to amplify a life and death mission in our day. As a small family and friends run business, we are passionate to spread this hope because we're walking stories of God's redemption. From pornography, sexual addiction, substance addiction, and sex trafficking we've lived this life. Each one of us also has experience in the church... some of us ok and others not so much. One commonality we saw and still see is the utter confusion and apathy when it comes to helping people with "big problems." It's like Jesus' mission applies to people who need Him, but somewhere we get scared and fail to go to those Jesus actually went to Himself! So we stay safe and comfortable as our world continues suffering in the grip of hell.

Simple but Critical Mission

So we started Choose RCVRY with this simple vision... to shout God's hope to a hurting world AND to waken the church that we all together can do something in even the most hell'sh parts of darkness. In fact Jesus actually calls us His family/His church to push into those hell'sh areas of our world.

Here we are 2 years later and the growth of our brand continues to be an uphill battle, but a glorious one at that. Story after story comes in from our ads and customers about their faith and their gritty determination to keep going and not turn back to their hell.

So what are the areas of complication? Well although we are growing, we've consistently found it challenging to find those out there who relate to our mission online. BUT as we talk word of mouth we have Christians and non-Christians alike say they love what we're about. What's weird is that more non-Christians are like heck yeah keep it up and Christians are like hey that's cool but they hesitate to get behind us. Now these are general observations, but by and large they are the feedback we get.

Social Censorship

The real grind and hustle comes as we engage a world on social platforms. We live in a day of censoring everything, including for some reason social issues like addiction, suicide, and sex trafficking. Case in point... right before writing this article I jumped on Google's keyword search for planning purposes. We can see what people are searching for and therefore targeting those areas is the idea. Well anything related to addiction, suicide, and sex trafficking is greyed out and will not populate search results. I was like, uh ok, well maybe there's a reason... until I searched keywords for porn only to find thousands of keyword results.

Furthermore we've found Instagram consistently taking key hastags and making them push posts down in their visibility. We've been banned on several occasions from Facebook ads because our brand pushes addiction recovery. Pinterest has limited our exposure due to some of our designs about suicide prevention, saying they are a platform that promotes positivity.

Determined

And so we continue a hard but crucial mission.... to amplify that we have recovered from porn/sex addiction, substances, and trafficking. God has set us each free and we have many friends finding Jesus set them free as well. For anyone out there still struggling, there IS hope. Jesus came to set the captives free and there is no hell you can't recover from.

And we continue as well to wake the church to the needs of our world. We can do something together, and we KNOW there are more out there like us that are determined to NOT be censored and share this hope with a world in desperate need! Together let's end the stigma of addiction from Christianity, our world, and social media.

Thanks for letting me be real with you,

- Derek

I love your mission and your blog was spot on in reference to censorship and basically discrimination if you get down to it. Addiction is definitely an uphill battle it doesn’t always end with a win either and the people trying to recover their hearts bodies and minds struggle not only with their addiction but in other areas as well. They struggle to find housing and good paying jobs as well due to the stigma of addiction and sometimes the police record that comes with the addiction. I understand the road is hard but at some point enough should be enough when paying for our mistakes. I’m not saying there aren’t good people willing to help but there’s not as many who empathize with the pain of any addiction. Thank you guys for the brand and the awareness it brings to the struggle.
